Let's go planet-hunting?

April 13, 2018

While Air Commander Aerospace doesn't have its own spacecraft ready to launch we can witness NASA sending it's own machine to the space in their mission to planet-hunting. They named it TESS or Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite while here at our company we thought of naming ours as Jess or John. We might still have couple of months (or light-years) to decide.

Putting on NASA's words:

"The satellite is the next step in NASA’s search for planets outside our solar system, known as exoplanets.

TESS is a NASA Astrophysics Explorer mission led and operated by MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and managed by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. Dr. George Ricker of MIT’s Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research serves as principal investigator for the mission. Additional partners include Orbital ATK, NASA’s Ames Research Center, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the Space Telescope Science Institute. More than a dozen universities, research institutes and observatories worldwide are participants in the mission. NASA’s Launch Services Program is responsible for launch management."

Air Commander will also be collaborating with attentive and anxious eyes looking at the sky from our Hangar couple of hundreds of miles south in our headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. If naked eyes do not work in the dark night we will have our telescope available.

TESS is scheduled for launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, next Monday, 16th of April not before 6:32pm, local time.
